Background

The Circular Economy Network (CEN) was established and launched in 2025 to promote and advance circular economy initiatives in Malawi. The Network serves as a collaborative platform that brings together stakeholders across the circular economy sector to foster partnerships, share innovations, and promote sustainable circularity practices. To strengthen its operations and effectively implement its activities, the Network seeks to recruit a Coordinator and an Administration Assistant to  serve as the Secretariat in advancing the Network’s objectives and expanding its impact across Malawi.

Position Title: CEN Coordinator

Duty Station: Remote, physical when necessary

 

Position Summary

The CEN Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the network’s activities, ensuring effective delivery of the workplan and strengthening stakeholder engagement. The role requires a proactive and highly organized individual capable of managing operations, partnerships, and key events of the network.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate the implementation of the CEN workplan, ensuring timely delivery of activities.

  • Coordinate all network meetings, workshops, and conferences, including the Annual Conference.

  • Oversee event planning and logistics, managing service providers (e.g., décor, catering, transport), with support from the Assistant.

  • Work closely with the Chairperson to mobilize local resources and sponsorships, particularly for the Annual Conference and other activities.

  • Operationalize and manage the CEN Digital Library, ensuring accessibility and relevance of content.

  • Support the visibility, branding, and marketing of the network across relevant platforms.

  • Strengthen stakeholder engagement, including partnerships with government, private sector, and development partners.

  • Supervise and guide the Assistant in executing assigned tasks.

  • Provide regular progress reports to the National Steering Committee.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Environmental Management, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • At least 4 - 7 years of relevant experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, or network management.

  • Proven experience in organizing events, workshops, or conferences.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in resource mobilization or partnership development is an added advantage.

  • Ability to work independently and deliver results under minimal supervision.

Position Summary

The Administration Assistant will provide administrative, logistical, and coordination support to the Malawi Circular Economy Network (MCEN) to ensure efficient implementation of network activities and smooth day-to-day operations. The role will support event coordination, stakeholder communication, documentation, scheduling, and office administration while working closely with the MCEN Coordinator to strengthen the effectiveness and visibility of the network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support coordination and implementation of MCEN activities and events. 

  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, conferences, and trainings. 

  • Provide logistical support for events, including coordination with vendors and service providers. 

  • Prepare meeting minutes, reports, and administrative correspondence. 

  • Maintain proper filing systems for documents and records. 

  • Support communication and follow-up with stakeholders and partners. 

  • Assist in managing the MCEN Digital Library and information platforms. 

  • Support visibility and marketing activities, including social media and dissemination of materials. 

  • Assist with scheduling meetings and maintaining activity calendars. 

  • Perform any other administrative duties assigned by the Coordinator


Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Administration, Business Management, Project Management, Communications, or related field. 

  • At least 1–2 years of relevant administrative or project support experience. 

  • Good organizational and communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools. 

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks.

Community Mobilisers | Closing date: 25th May 2026 

Background

WASTE Advisers, in partnership with WASTE Netherlands, is implementing the Financial Inclusion of Improved Livelihoods Out of Plastics (FINILOOP) Project. The project aims to strengthen plastic waste value chain systems to increase the recovery and recycling of plastics while creating green jobs and improving livelihoods. The project works closely with schools, communities, industries, and informal waste pickers, among other key stakeholders, to promote sustainable plastic waste management and support the transition towards a circular economy. To strengthen the implementation of the project, WASTE Advisers seeks to recruit two Community Mobilisers to support community engagement, stakeholder coordination, and the effective delivery of project activities.

Position Summary

The Community Mobilisers will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of community engagement and mobilisation activities under the FINILOOP Project. The role is responsible for building strong relationships with communities, local leaders, schools, waste pickers, businesses, and other stakeholders to promote participation in plastic waste management and recycling initiatives. The Officer will coordinate awareness campaigns, support behaviour change interventions and ensure effective community participation in project activities aimed at strengthening plastic waste value chains, improving livelihoods, and promoting a circular economy. The position also involves monitoring field activities, documenting progress and lessons learned, and supporting partnerships that enhance the achievement of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement community mobilisation and engagement activities under the FINILOOP Project.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with community leaders, local authorities, schools, industries, waste pickers, and other key stakeholders.

  • Lead public awareness and behaviour change initiatives focused on plastic waste separation, recycling, environmental sanitation, and circular economy practices.

  • Organise and facilitate community meetings, training sessions, sensitisation campaigns, and stakeholder engagement events.

  • Promote and support households and businesses in adopting waste separation at source and enhancing plastic waste recovery.

  • Collaborate with schools to design and implement circular economy competitions and educational programmes.

  • Collect field data, success stories, lessons learned, and community feedback to support project monitoring and reporting.

  • Facilitate the training of Informal Waste Pickers located at the dumpsite and in streets

  • Prepare activity reports, work plans, and progress updates. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, or implementation of community-based projects.

  • Experience working with communities, local authorities, schools, youth groups, or informal sector actors will be an added advantage.

  • Knowledge and understanding of waste management, recycling, environmental sustainability, or circular economy initiatives is desirable.​
